Barents Forest Sector Task Force (BFSTF) Meeting

Natalia Demidova participated in the Barents Forest Sector Task Force meeting which took place in Oslo in the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food on 21-22 of March.

The Barents region is the largest region of inter-regional cooperation in Europe, which includes Sweden, Finland, Norway and the North-West Russia. The main aim of the Barents Cooperation is to strengthen the north-west infrastructure, establish interpersonal contacts, and as a consequence - a significant contribution to the economic, cultural and social development of the region.

The meeting was attended by: Sverre Stub - Ambassador, Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) and Ingrid Lillehagen from the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment. They noted that climate change is a priority in the BEAR. Chairman of the Task Force on Forest Sector group Ivan Sovetnikov - Head of Legal Service of the Federal Forestry Agency, described the preparation of national forest policy in Russia. Boris Romaniuk (FBU "SPbNIILH") presented an effective model for forest management. Natalia Demidova made a presentation about the main challenges of forestry sector of Arkhangelsk region.

The meeting reviewed the plan of the Forest Sector Task Force group. It was decided that the BEAR Forest Forum will be held in Arkhangelsk in April 2013.
