Russian-Finnish cooperation in the field of forestry

The next meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Forestry Finnish-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Helsinki on November 13. The members of the working Group discussed current issues in forest policy of Finland, and the implementation of the new forest policy of the Russian Federation.

The Working Group reviewed and discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of bioenergy, state forest inventory and multilateral cooperation of the Boreal countries, including Finland and Russia in the field of forestry in the framework of the Barents / Euro-Arctic Council, including Russia's chairmanship in BEAC in the period 2015-2017.

The constructive exchange of views on the current situation in the forestry sector and prospects of development of bilateral relations in the field of forestry of the two countries took place during the meeting.

The Finnish side took the initiative to continue the exchange of experience in the field of intensification of forestry and state forest inventory in Russia and Finland. The head of the Russian delegation, Deputy Head of the Federal Forestry Agency Mikhail Klinov proposed to intensify the joint work in the field of bioenergy and forest management, improve the regulatory framework for the use of wood raw material for the production of heat and electricity.

N.A. Demidova, Deputy Director of Sciences, attended the meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Forestry Finnish-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. She made presentation "Cooperation in the Barents Region in the Field of Forestry."
