The Meeting of Barents Euro-Arctic Council Working Group on Environment.

On December 8-10 Arkhangelsk will host the meeting of the Working Group on Environment of the Barents/EuroArctic Council.

The meeting is organized by the Ministry of Nature and Environment of the Russian Federation in association with the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region. The meeting will be attended by BEAC experts from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the North-West of Russia.

The participants will discuss current issues of the Barents region environmental safety and climate change.

Arkhangelsk Region holds the chairmanship in the Barents Region Council for 2013-2015. During this chairmanship the work of the Government is concentrated on several key initiatives, among them – development of the Regional Climate Strategy for the Russian part of the Barents region.

The main topics are: Regional Climate Change Strategies; Emission inventories; Permafrost, carbon sinks;Future actions on climate change.

Surina Elena and Senkov Aleksandr took part in The Meeting of Barents Euro-Arctic Council Working Group on Environment, section: «Climate change». They made a report on the topic «The role of forests in changing climate in forest sector development scenarios». This report has discussed at the “Climate change” section on December 8 in Arkhangelsk.
