Working seminar "Effective regional climate planning - from policy to practice"

From 03 to 05.09.2014 Elena Surina (The Head of the Sector of Forest Protection, Candidate of the Agricultural Sciences) participated in the workshop "Effective regional climate planning - from strategy to practice". She made the report "Accounting of the climatic factor in the formation of forestry development strategy in the northern forests of Russia ". Working Group on Environment of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council organized a seminar on regional strategies for climate change and planning tools. A seminar venue: St. Petersburg, Consulate General of Finland.

The purpose of this work is to provide detailed information on the different stages of the preparation of climate strategies and joint development of ideas. Regions that have already developed a strategy, share their experience with regions that are just beginning the process of developing the strategy. Regions that have not yet developed a strategy can contribute to the implementation phase by providing ideas and feedback to the regions that already have a strategy.

Northern Research Institute of Forestry has been involved for participation in a climate strategy development for the Russian segment of the Barents Region.

During the workshop experience was gained in the practical development of strategies - goal setting, financing, adaptation, public involvement, the implementation of the strategy, monitoring and updating.

The meeting of the members of the Working group on climate strategy development for the Russian segment of the Barents Region has taken place at the end of the workshop.
