The International Day of Forests is celebrated worldwide. This date was adopted by the United Nations in 1971. The main objective of this global celebration of forests − to raise awareness on our planet about the importance of forest ecosystems, their protection, regeneration, and recovery.

Activities expected to take place on the 2014 International Day, announced by UN, include tree-planting and other community-level events, and national celebrations including art, photo and film as well as social media.

Researchers of our institute with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of the Arkhangelsk Region will collect lodgepole pine cones on experimental plots of the Dendrological garden for scientific purposes. Institute conducts this work in order to implement the "Program of biotechnology development in the Russian Federation for the period till 2020", approved in 2012 by Prime Minister.
