Gardens can more than do, and do much more than people know about!

The 3rd International conference «Living in Harmony: Botanic Gardens and Society – Dialogue without Borders» was held in the old Russian City Tver. An extensive programme of the conference consisted of presentations, seminars and round table discussions communicating and exchanging experiences on issues and developments of regional, national and international collaboration between botanical gardens and partner organizations for the conservation of plants.

Participants of the Conference discussed the issues relating to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation, the increasing social importance of botanical gardens, the administration and marketing, experience of gardens, innovation in educational activities, and landscape design at botanical gardens. The key idea was an opportunity to experience regional, national and international cooperation, as a way to achieve peace in the world of plants.

Within the framework of the Conference, for the first time in Russia, was organized a master- class ”Administration and marketing in gardens: the best in Russia and in the world – sharing and discussing, teaching and learning ". The class leaders were: Director and Professor Emeritus of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Prof. Peter J. Olin; Director of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Dr. Edward Schneider; Chair of Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, President of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Dr. Peter Wyse Jackson and Director of the Botanical Garden of Tver State University, Dr. Yury Naumtcev.

During the Conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the city of Tver and the region of Tver, which are located in the heart of Russia on the Great Russian River Volga.
